Farhadi’s debut film “Dancing in the Dust” released in U.S.

TEHRAN-A remastered version of the acclaimed Iranian director Asghar Farhadi “Dancing in the Dust” was released on streaming platforms in the U.S., September 29.

Presented in a new 2K restoration, 20 years after it was first shown, the movie has been released by Film Movement, ISNA reported on Friday.

The movie was Farhadi’s debut feature, made in 2003. Co-written by Farhadi, Alireza Bazrafshan and Mohammadreza Fazeli, the film tells the story of a poor man who is obliged to divorce his wife because his relatives insist. The only thing he can do for his ex-wife is to pay her alimony in installments, but he faces a tough time to raise the amount.

Faramarz Qaribian, Yousef Khodaparast, Baran Kosari and Jalal Sarhad-Seraj are in the cast of the film that is a tale of love, sacrifice, and redemption.

The 100-minute drama has attended many international events and garnered several nominations and prizes. It won three awards for the best director, screenplay and supporting actress at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival, best actor award at the 25th Moscow International Film Festival and the special jury award for the best film at Fajr Film Festival.

Founded in 2002, Film Movement is a North American distributor of award-winning independent and foreign films based in New York City.

Farhadi is considered one of the most prominent filmmakers of Iranian cinema as well as world cinema in the 21st century. His films have gained fame for their focus on the human condition, and portrayals intimate and challenging stories of internal family conflicts.

The strength of Farhadi’s directing and screenwriting is well acclaimed and known to all and his prizes in these categories are indeed undeniable proof of this claim. Moreover, actors playing in his films present their best performance; this is partly due to their great abilities and also the skills in Farhadi in eliciting and encouraging those potentials.

Having won Oscar for the best foreign language film twice for “A Separation” (2011) and “The Salesman” (2016), Farhadi is well known for the American audience.

Farhadi has so far made nine feature films. With the release of his directorial debut, now all of his works have been shown in the US including “The Beautiful City” (2004) “Fireworks Wednesday” (2006), “About Elly” (2009), “The Past” (2013), “Everybody Knows” (2018), and “A Hero” (2021) as well as his two Oscar-winning movies.
