Sunni clergy voice support for Iran’s ruling system and Leader
TEHRAN - The Sunni clergymen of Iran’s Kurdistan region have expressed support for the Islamic Republic system and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, expressing hatred of foreign interference and highlighting the need to address people’s economic problems.
In a statement, the clergy underlined that they abide by the instructions of the Leader while caring about people’s rightful demands and the rights affected by mismanagement, sanctions, and pressure by hegemonic powers.
“The Sunni clergy of Kurdistan province and the western parts of the country have always been present, both during the time before the [1979 Islamic] Revolution to fight the tyrannical system [of the Shah] and after it in the height of insecurity triggered by pressure by secessionist groups as well as during the Sacred Defense era (the Iraqi-imposed war on Iran during the 1980s), and support the Islamic Republic of Iran’s establishment,” read the statement.
Recently, foreign-backed terrorists and trained mercenaries hijacked peaceful protests in Iran to advance the objectives of the enemy. They touched off riots, vandalized public property and tried to incite discontent. One of their objectives was to create sectarian divide and ethnic divisions to further cause chaos in the country. However, Iranians from all walks of life, including religious and ethnic groups, expressed their solidarity with the Islamic establishment by holding pro-government rallies and condemning acts of terror and riots machinated by the enemy.
