KHORRAMABAD -- Four people died and three were wounded when a car in the western Iranian Province of Lorestan on Saturday collided with a truck head-on, IRNA reported.

The wounded were immediately transferred to a local hospital and have reported to be in good conditions.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Iran has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with an average of 200,000 reported annually in which 15,000 people are killed and 87,000 injured.

Transport experts blame most of the accidents on dilapidated vehicles and reckless driving.
