Ilam, the land of fascinating cliffs

Ilam province, western Iran, covers an area of 19,086 square kilometers and include Ilam, Mehran, Dehloran, Darreh Shahr, Sarable, Eyvan, Abdanan and Arkwaz cities.  It shares its borders with three provinces of Khuzestan in the south, Lorestan in the east, and Kermanshah in the north. Ilam has also 425 kilometers of common border with Iraq in the west.  The province’s weather is hot and dry during summer and is temperate in winter. Ilam boasts beautiful spring nature.  The capital city of the province is Ilam. The city is bounded by mountains and forests and benefits from mountainous weather. Ancient castles, channels and river beds in mountainous nature make attractions for those who visit the place, especially during spring when all over the place is covered with green.Tehran Times / Leila Qodratollahi-Fard

The long and large river of Seimareh in southwestern Iran, which is called Karkheh in the lower part, flows through the eastern margin of the province. Its main streams are Gamasiab, Qara Sou, Chenareh, Kashkan and another stream that originates from Kamyaran and Mahidash heights. The beautiful waterfalls astonish visitors of Ilam province's nature during spring time. One must pass through water while visiting Zingan Strait in different parts. Zingan Strait, located 52km southwest of Ilam, is actually known as the Zingan cave in Ilam. The best time for travelling to the place is spring and summer. Due to its fresh and cool weather, the 6km-long Zingan Strait is called ‘heavenly cave’. Razianeh Strait formed from limestone and calcium carbonate compounds. It is a fantastic case study not only for the lovers of geomorphology, but also for living nature lovers because of endemic and migrating birds and reptiles!
