Majlis speaker lauds Hamas victory in parliamentary election
"We regard Hamas victory as a victory for Palestine's cause given the stance adopted by Hamas towards liberating Palestine", Haddad-Adel said in his address to lawmakers in Majlis open session.
Hamas was announced the winner of Palestine's 132-member parliament election held in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and eastern parts of the holy Qods on January 25, 2006.
The Palestinian people voted for democracy, showed their royalty to the Palestinian cause and avenged death of martyrs Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Abdel Aziz Rantissi, said Haddad-Adel in reference to the Zionist regime's brutal action in assassinating Palestinian leaders.
Today, the West and the U.S. have two choices: they should either continue supporting Israel's terrorism or push forward Palestinians' democracy, the speaker noted in a clear reference to the status quo in Palestinian occupied lands. Haddad-Adel said "Today, it is not the Americans who draw up road map peace plan for the Palestinians, rather it is the Palestinian people themselves that draw road map for the Americans."
The Palestinians are now telling the U.S. to give up support for Israel and let the Palestinian people decide their own fate, the speaker said.
"We urge the Islamic and Arab governments to well understand the direction on which masses in the world of Islam are moving and to cooperate with Hamas and the new government to take office in Palestine as well as the new parliament."
"We are pleased that Hamas has shown its vigilance in political arena," he concluded.
