Mild temblors rattle parts of Iran

TEHRAN (IRNA) –- A moderate earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted the city of Kadkan and its vicinity in the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi Tuesday noon.

The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered the quake at 12:27 hours local time (0857 GMT).

The epicenter of the tremor was located in an area measuring respectively 59.06 and 35.55 degrees in longitude and latitude, the report added.

Meanwhile, another moderate temblor with a magnitude of 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale hit surrounding areas of the port city of Khamir in the southern province of Hormozgan Monday evening.

Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, reported the tremor occurred at 23:13:40 local time (19:43 GMT), with an epicenter felt in an area with 27.08 degrees in latitude and 55.87 degrees in longitude.

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property, caused by the quakes.

Iran is often jolted by earthquakes with varied magnitudes as it sits on some of the world’s most active fault lines.
