TEHRAN -- Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadar Spanta said Kabul would never allow any threat to endanger Iran’s security on its eastern border with Afghanistan.

“No danger threatens Iran from its eastern borders, and as we have insisted earlier, our government will never allow any danger to threaten Iran,” Spanta told the Mehr News Agency in an exclusive interview while participating in the September 3-4 NAM meeting in Tehran.
Afghanistan’s top diplomat also called for a negotiated settlement of Iran’s nuclear issue. “Our policy is clear. We want to see the issue resolved through constructive negotiation.”
Spanta noted, “Issues concerning Iran’s nuclear dossier need to be resolved through comprehensive negotiations, and we are seriously opposed to any act of violence in this regard.”
He stressed that Tehran has an absolute right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
He went on to say that Kabul’s relations with Tehran are “deep-rooted and historical” and stated that Afghanistan is interested in expanding bilateral ties in the political, economic, and cultural spheres.
He also expressed appreciation for Iran’s efforts to help in the reconstruction of his war-torn homeland.
