TEHRAN - Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami here on Friday urged the Islamic countries to cut economic relations with “those who desecrate Prophet Muhammad(PBUH)”.
Condemning the reprint of a cartoon desecrating Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in some Danish newspapers, Ayatollah Khatami of the Assembly of Experts stated, “I hope members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference would cut economic relations with countries which have done this.”The 11th Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will be held on March 13-14 in Dakar, Senegal.
Insulting the Prophet is a plot by the enemy to prevent the spread of Islam in the world, he noted.
“In Denmark, where the cartoons were published, Quran became the best seller book, therefore they should know such actions will not serve their purpose,” he told worshippers.
Danish newspapers last month reprinted a satirical cartoon which desecrated Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
According to Reuters, the cartoons were first published by the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten in September 2005, but the row erupted after other papers reprinted them in 2006. At least 50 people were killed in the protests
