IRAN in a news report quotes Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Hassan Firouzabadi as saying the Iranian officials don’t have any interest to travel to Europe or the United States. The remarks by the top general came as the European Union has imposed asset freeze and travel ban on certain Iranian officials. Firouzabadi said the persons on the list have never travelled to European countries or the U.S. and are not even willing to visit these countries. He added, “We are not concerned about sanctions against Iran.” About Saudi Arabia’s military intervention in Bahrain and the killing of pro-democracy protestors, Firouzabadi said Riyadh’s action is inhuman and runs contrary to Islam. He added in fact foreign troops have not achieved any success in Bahrain.
TEHRAN-E EMROOZ in a news report quotes Mohammad Hossein Saffar Harandi as saying all people have right to hold protest rallies but any rally should be within the framework of the constitution. Saffar Harandi, a former culture minister who currently serves as cultural advisor to the IRGC chief, said if rallies had not been based on the constitution people would have taken to the streets every day, leading to a chaotic situation in the country. For example, he asked, if those 13 million people who voted for Mir-Hossein Mousavi and those 24 millions who voted for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad poured into the streets then what would have happened? The advisor to the IRGC commander added the Interior Ministry should issue permits for rallies, and in a protest rally slogans, place of demonstration, and number of marchers should be specified otherwise the license of a party or group which arranges protest is revoked
