U.S. to purchase 32 tons of heavy water from Iran

The U.S. has said it is buying 32 tons of heavy water from Iran by paying 8.6 million dollars.

Iranian officials have confirmed the sale of heavy water to the United States.

The heavy water will initially be stored at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee before being resold, BBC said in a report on its website.

Under the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and great powers, Iran is allowed to use heavy water in its modified Arak nuclear reactor, but should sell any excess supply of heavy water on the international market.
