TEHRAN – Vice President for Parliamentary Affairs Hossein-Ali Amiri said on Monday that the administration is in favor of a bill that changes parliamentary elections from local to provincial levels.

In an open session of the parliament, Amiri said the bill was put forward after the viewpoints of experts and political and social activists were considered, Mehr reported.

Speaking against the bill, MP Abbas Goudarzi said provincial elections would decrease voter turnout and prevent younger generations from becoming lawmakers.

He also said the move will create a rift between the establishment and the people.
