TEHRAN PAPERS:

Attack on the government cabinet

April 16, 2023 - 17:14

In a commentary, Shargh discussed the developments in President Raisi's government and claimed that changes in cabinet do not have much effect. It said: Finally, the changes in the not so successful 13th cabinet started, and it seems that the changes are expected to continue until the cabinet is completely reshuffled and at least the economic team of the government is changed.  Pro-government media outlets have said changes will strengthen competence and opportunity to solve problems, especially in curbing inflation and promoting growth.

So far, three ministers have given their places to new ministers, and the heads of the Central Bank and the Planning and Budget Organization have also left their positions.  At noon, on the 22nd of Farvardin 1402 (April 11, 2023), Ali Bahadri Jahrami, the government spokesman, announced new changes in the cabinet. He said the chief of the Planning and Budget Organization and the Minister of Agriculture Jihad were replaced by new persons.  Also, the CEO of Innovation and Prosperity Fund was introduced.  Although these changes have been welcomed, the Minister of Agriculture was removed in a situation while everyone was waiting for change of minister of industries, commerce and mining.

Kayhan: Religiosity of the young Iranian generation

In its editorial, Kayhan analyzed religion in relation to the young generation and wrote: The grand gatherings on Qadr Nights in cities and villages across the country with massive participation of citizens once again showed the ‘flow of religion and religious beliefs in the veins of the society’. This is despite the fact that some inside and outside the country are trying to introduce and promote an anti-religion image of the Iranian society with special methods and tricks.

The most important thing is on the occasions of the holy month of Ramadan and religious gatherings, including Qadr Nights, the presence of a large number of teenagers and young people was evident above all, and basically the main burden of organizing these gatherings is on the shoulders of the motivated and hardworking youth.

In addition to this, the presence of different people, including men, women, girls and boys,  that some of whom had an appearance that at first glance may not be believable for some, once again proves that the nature of the youth and people of this land is ‘pure’ and God-seeking with every appearance.

Hamshahri: Quantity and quality of religiosity of Iranians have increased

Hamshahri has written in its editorial about the increase of religiosity in Iran and its coordinates. It said: Today, religiosity has taken a direction.  The essence of religiosity is ‘love and hatred’ towards the truth, and today the direction of religiosity is to fight against the enemy of truth.  An example is hijab.

Those days have gone when hijab was the only protection or was the only sign of modesty.  Today it is much more. Hijab is a tool of struggle and a symbol of confrontation with enemies.  Today, hijab is a symbol of patriotism and defense of the country. Isn't it interesting?

Most importantly, people today pay for religiosity:  the cost of resistance.  People stand up against foreign swindlers and fraudsters to keep their religion.  They have been under the storm and bombardment of hybrid attacks for years, and of course they are enduring.  It is natural that the faith obtained in the heart of resistance cannot be compared to the faith in the heart of wellness.

Sobh-e-No: Another document on effectiveness of resistance

In its editorial, the Sobh-e-No newspaper analyzed Quds Day. It wrote: Today, the heroic Palestinian fist and stone revolution has been upgraded to a missile and drone intifada, and the aggressive behavior of the Zionist regime has gone into defensive posture and installing the Iron Dome.  The resistance of the Palestinian people and groups proved once again that what can push back the aggressors and oppressors and make it possible to achieve justice is not compromise but resistance. It is a path that today we are seeing its effects as the countries in the region are turning to the Islamic Republic, Arab countries are normalizing relations with Syria and Saudi Arabia is giving up in the face of the Yemeni resistance.

Arman-e-Melli: Four principles of competitive elections

In a note, the Arman-e-Melli newspaper listed four principles for holding competitive elections, which are as follows:

First, the openness of the country's cultural, political and social space. The signs and symptoms of this openness should be seen in less threats by authorities, institutions and officials against the people, organizations and political parties. The media should be the practical manifestation of this openness from now on and not on the eve of the elections.

Second, accepting the principle of competition in the political arena.  The Assembly of Experts and the Parliament must represent the majority of the people.  Groups with different political tastes and tendencies should be able to contest the elections so that competition take a root.

Third, Prohibition of political doping.  Massive turnout, healthy and competitive elections are formed when some people or a special political faction is not given favoritism to grab the power.  The main addressees to such suggestions are the supervisory and executive institutions responsible for vetting the competence of candidates.

Fourth, contest of the election by prominent and experienced figures in large numbers.  The Assembly of Experts and the city councils need expert, insightful, experienced people.
