TEHRAN – Majlis will not okay bills which may cause more inflation, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Friday.

“The Majlis is determined to resolve people’s economic problems, therefore it will not ratify inflationary bills or plans,” Larijani told a group of people in Qom, the city he represents in the Majlis.
The speaker called on all officials to make attempts to alleviate Iranians’ economic hardship.
“Today, people are suffering from inflation and economic problems, therefore all officials should redouble their efforts to resolve them.”
Larijani added that President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s cabinet has presented to the Majlis different bills to remove obstacles to economic activities and allay economic burdens on people.
“The Majlis will study these bills carefully and if they are not inflationary the legislators will approve them,” he said.
Pointing to the economic reform plan which is intended to redirect subsidies, the top lawmaker said, “Majlis has (so far) resisted the approval of the economic reform plan because it wants to prevent the inflation breeding from it.”
Larjjain insisted that the “representatives will never ratify” the economic reform plan if it causes “another problems”.
The speaker criticized a plan by the government to withdraw money from Forex Fund and inject it into the banking system.
“Banks should not be changed into (interest free) funds, but should act like business units and stand on their own feet.”
---------No Majlis-government friction
The speaker went on to say that there is no friction between the Majlis and the Ahmadinejad administration.
“The administration and Majlis are determined to resolve the problems and differences of opinion between them are normal.
