TEHRAN – Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad on Monday held a telephone conversation with Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal.

Ahmadinejad congratulated Meshaal on the “victory of the Palestinian resistance” in the war against the Zionist regime.
Israel and Hamas both announced a unilateral ceasefire after 22 days of Israeli incursions on the Gaza Strip which claimed the lives of over 1400 people and wounded hundreds of others. Hamas has given Israeli troops one week to withdraw form Gaza.
Ahmadinejad called on “Islamic governments to pressure the Zionist regime to withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip, lift the siege on Gaza and open all border crossings into the strip.”
Ahmadinejad said the Islamic states should “push for the prosecution of criminal Zionists and sever ties with the fake Zionist regime and boycott the products of this regime and its supporters.”
Meshaal said, “The Zionists failed to achieve their objectives in the face of the Palestinian resistance.” He added that “the resistance will continue until the complete withdrawal of the Zionists and the lifting of the blockade.”
He also expressed appreciation for Iran’s support for the Palestinian resistance
