BAGHDAD (IRNA) - Iraqi National Security Advisor Muwafaq al-Rubaie said on Saturday that Baghdad is by no means concerned over Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

Talking to IRNA, he said Iraq is very pleased with Iran’s launching of Omid (Hope) data-processing national satellite.
The satellite was launched using Safir-2 rocket and was successfully put into orbit on Monday evening, February 2, 2009.
Baghdad believes that all the hue and cry created on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and the country’s launching of satellites are politically motivated, he added.
Tehran has assured Baghdad of the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, he said, adding that Iraq believes such a right is a legitimate one of all world states, including the Islamic Republic.
Iraq, during Saddam Hussein’s era, was among the regional states pursuing nuclear energy for military purposes, al-Rubaie said, adding that all the country’s nuclear activities were ceased following the U.S. invasion and the overthrow of the Saddam regime in 2003.
