TEHRAN -- MP Ali Motahhari has urged Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi to seriously address the issue of the post-election unrest detentions.

In a letter sent to the Judiciary chief on Monday, Motahhari pointed to the death of Mohsen Rouholamini, a 25-year-old who died in prison, saying, “The crimes which have been committed by suspicious individuals whose faith in Islam is suspect… should not be left unpunished.”
There are reports which indicate that the detainees are being physically and psychologically tortured, which is a violation of the tenets of Islam, and in some cases this has led to the death of detainees, he added.
Motahhari emphasized, “The culprits should be punished and identified… with their official titles. It seems that you… do not have the necessary sensitivity for the campaign against oppression and for the defense of the rights of the oppressed; otherwise, things would not have reached this stage.”
“It is still not too late. As the first step, identify and punish the intentional or unintentional murderer of (Rouholamini) so that… those criminals who call themselves interrogators learn a lesson,” he insisted.
Rouholamini was arrested on July 9, and after he died in prison, his body was delivered to his family after a few days.
