SNSC seeks trial of officers handling Kahrizak detention center
Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN – Supreme National Security Council has called for putting on trial those security officers who held detainees arrested in post-election unrest at the Kahrizak detention center.

The Kahrizak detention center, located in the south of Tehran, was closed on the order of the Supreme Leader because it lacked the minimum standards for keeping prisoners.

The SNSC special committee had visited the detention center, held talks with the detainees and their families, and reviewed reports from Iran's Forensic Medicine Organization.

The committee has proposed that all officers who have violated rules stand trial; it also said all provisions are met so that the detainees kept in the center pursue their complaints.

MP Hossein Sobhaninia had previously stated that it is essential to deal with certain police officers who reacted disproportionately against protesters in the post-election unrest.

Also, the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Alaeddin Broujerdi has said that the Kahrizak detention center cannot be categorized as a standard prison and it was especially built for keeping thugs
