U.S. denial of Jundullah support not acceptable: Larijani
Tehran Times Political Desk
TEHRAN -- The United States’ denial of backing the terrorist group Jundullah, also known as the Rigi group, is not acceptable, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said here on Wednesday.
He told reporters at the airport that the denial “cannot be justified by words.”
Larijani headed the Iranian parliamentary delegation in Geneva, for attending the 121st Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly from October 19 to 21, and the speaker arrived in Tehran on Wednesday.
Larijani called the assembly the best opportunity for talking on the critical situation in the Palestinian territories saying, “The IPU Assembly was a venue that provided an opportunity for informal talks between officials, and therefore it was a good forum for lobbying.”
The issue of Palestine is of great importance in the world of Islam, the speaker stated.
The IPU was established in 1889. The Union is the focal point for worldwide parliamentary dialogue and works for peace and cooperation among peoples and for the firm establishment of democracy.
In a meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Ahmed Ibrahim al-Tahir on the sidelines of the assembly in Geneva, Larijani condemned U.S. double-standard policy in the world.
Al-Tahir for his part also appreciated Iran's assistance to the Sudanese nation and called for further expansion of all-out ties between the two countries.
In reference to the Sunday's suicide attack near Iran's border with Pakistan, Larijani said “The U.S. is involved in the recent heinous terrorist operations.”
The U.S. has a very bad and indefensible record in its relations with the Islamic Republic, he added.
The attack took place in the city of Pishin, near the border with Pakistan and killed over 40 people, including five senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan.
The IRGC commanders were on their way to a meeting with local elders of the Shia and Sunni communities when the terrorists carried out the attack.
IRGC Ground Forces Deputy Commander Nour-Ali Shoushtari and Sistan-Baluchestan Province IRGC Commander Rajab-Ali Mohammadzadeh were among those who lost their lives in the attack
