TEHRAN -- Iran’s “Be Calm and Count to Seven” by Ramtin Lavafipur was awarded at the 54th Valladolid International Film Festival that was held from October 23 to 31 in Spain.

The film won the Best Feature Prize at the Meeting Point Section of the gala for “lucid analysis of a reality which reaches us from opposites sides of the planet: the so-called First World -Europe- and a remote fishing village in Iran,” as mentioned in the festival’s website.

The film won several international awards including the 2009 Prix du Jury Oecuménique award at the Fribourg International Film Festival and an honorary diploma at the Feature Film Section of the Roma Independent Film Festival held again in March.

“Be Calm” narrates the tale of a youth named Motu, who is a member of a gang of youths who retrieve contraband from the sea. Meanwhile, Motu’s father has disappeared while transporting illegal human cargo and the smugglers’ middleman contends with a toothache and tense telephone calls from his wife in Tehran.

Lavafipur’s debut feature film “Be Calm and Count to Seven” has not screened in Iran as yet.
