Israel uneasy over Iran-Egypt rapprochement
Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN - Israel, as the main enemy of the Islamic nations, is afraid of an expansion of Tehran-Cairo cooperation, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday.

In a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Fathi Surur in Cairo, Larijani said one of the important objectives of Iran is and has been to create unity between the Islamic nations.

Since the end of Iran-Iraq war Tehran has sought to establish lasting and strong relationship with its neighbors as well as Islamic countries, he added.

However, certain major powers have financially supported extremism in the Islamic nations to sabotage the image of Islam.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said the West does not want the Islamic countries to have the nuclear technology but the Islamic nations must make serious efforts to gain access to this knowledge for peaceful purposes.

Larijani also invited the Egyptian speaker to visit Iran in the future and Fathi Surur accepted the offer.

Ahmed Fathi Surur highlighted Iran’s important position in the Islamic world and the region and its influence in the world against the will of western countries.

He called Israel the enemy of all Islamic nations, saying efforts are being made to sow discord between Islamic countries.

“However, It is essential that we move toward unity and we must not ignore the real enemy of the Islamic world,” he added.

Iran-Egypt relations can help foster unity among Islamic nations but Israel is opposed to such a rapprochement, he stated
