‘Iran has no plan to build missiles capable of reaching U.S.’
Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN – Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi has said Iran does not have any plan to build missiles capable of reaching the U.S.

“We do not have such a plan because today Iran has a high capability,” Vahidi told reporters in Tehran on Wednesday.

The U.S. Defense Department said in an April 19 report that Iran might be able to build ballistic missiles capable of reaching North America by 2015.

Vahidi called such remarks part of an effort to create a kind of war of nerves.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the defense chief said that Iran has no need to build the S-300 missile system but the country plans to build similar weapons in the future.

However, the defense minister said the newly-revealed air defense system, that all parts of which were manufactured inside the country, has medium-range missile system and could be a good alternative for the S-300 missile system.

Meanwhile the defense minister announced that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps will begin three days of maneuver in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz starting from today
