Zionists are behind Quran desecration: Iran FM

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has described the Quran-burning plan as a Zionist-orchestrated scheme.

“Quran-burning project was a brazen, divisive, Zionists-backed scheme,” Mottaki said in a joint press conference with his Malawian counterpart Etta Banda.
The Westerners have “sown the seeds of hatred” and will certainly face the repercussions of their heinous move, he asserted.
Although American pastor Terry Jones called off his Quran-burning event in the face of strong international disapproval, some extremists burned copies of Quran at their churches on the anniversary of 9/11.
“The stance of the Muslim world and the Islamic Republic of Iran on this heinous and sacrilegious act is clear. We see the Zionists’ hands behind this insulting act,” he stated.
Desecrating Quran is an extremist move to create division among believers of various divine faiths, he opined.
The senior diplomat also blamed the Western governments for failing to clarify the border between insult and freedom of speech.
U.S. officials claim according to the First Amendment which recognizes the citizens’ rights to freedom of speech, they can not prevent people from burning the holy book.
