TEHRAN - The U.S. plan to establish a new ballistic missile defense shield in Turkey is part of the efforts to promote Iranophobia in the region, but the plot will fail, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Saeed Masoud Jazayeri said in Tehran on Sunday.

Jazayeri made the remarks in a brief interview with the Mehr News Agency.
At a meeting last week, NATO members discussed a proposal presented by the United States to establish a new ballistic missile defense shield in Turkey.
Turkish officials say they will analyze and deliberate on all the possible outcomes and implications of the proposed plan before reaching a decision.
“This is not a reservation, but the conditions needed for negotiation. We are negotiating the terms of it, and naturally parties are presenting their opinions,” Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul told reporters on Friday.
Jazayeri said that Turkey is a pro-Islamic country pursuing intelligent policies and attempting to enhance its national security.
He went on to say that the world will soon become aware of the United States’ hostility toward Iran.
Iran has announced its defense doctrine and policies several times and there is no reason to become worried about the Islamic Republic, he stated.
However, the U.S. is making efforts to expand its hegemony through fabricating tales meant to sow discord between nations, he added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Jazayeri said NATO’s future is uncertain, and those who monitor and review NATO’s activities from a strategic point of view believe NATO’s heyday is over.
