6 new tankers for Iran fleet

TEHRAN -– The managing director of the National Iranian Tanker Company said that in 2011, 6 giant oil tanker ships will be added to the fleet increasing its capacity up to 12.5 million tons a year.

The Mehr News Agency quoted Mohammad Soori as saying that the first tanker ship will be handed over to the country by foreign shipbuilders this month.
He pointed out that Iran’s oil ship fleet has 46 tankers with an annual capacity of 10.6 million tons.
Soori added that presently orders have been made out to foreign and domestic builders for 28 new oil tankers.
He noted that when the new tankers come on stream the fleet will gain the capacity to transport 18 million tons a year of crude oil
