‘Iran to manufacture new generation of destroyers’

TEHRAN – Iran will start designing and manufacturing new generations of destroyers, Rear Admiral Gholamreza Khadem Beigham said on Friday.

These frigates which will be equipped with missile launchers and advanced equipment, Khadem Beigham, deputy Navy commander, told IRNA.
In February 2010, the Navy unveiled Jamaran destroyer, which is equipped with modern radars and other electronic warfare capabilities.
Jamaran can carry 120-140 people and is armed with a variety of surface-to-air missiles.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Khadem Beigham stated that Iran should strengthen its military capabilities to be able to defend itself against aerial and maritime threats.
However, he noted the Navy is in full preparedness in the face of every threat since it is upgrading its defensive systems.
Pointing to the Navy’s plans to expand missions in international waters, he said more maritime fleets are needed in this regard
