TEHRAN – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that Iran plans to promote ties with Kenya and believes that strong relationship between Tehran and Nairobi will benefit all independent nations.

“The two countries, in the current situation created by the ongoing global developments, are seeking to expand their cooperation in all areas to the benefit of the two nations and all independent countries,” Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with the visiting Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, on Sunday.
Kenya has been one of the main centers of the movements for independence in Africa, and that is why the Iranian people have a high opinion of Kenyans, he said.
The president added that the two countries share common views on various issues, and this paves the way for enhancing relations in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
He also highlighted the importance of improving banking infrastructures to facilitate financial transactions between the two countries.
Odinga said that Kenya as the commercial hub of the east Africa seeks to strengthen its relationship with Iran.
The Kenyan prime minister also described his visit to Tehran and meetings with Iranian officials as fruitful and constructive.
