TEHRAN - The Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation issued a statement on Sunday, thanking the Islamic Republic of Iran for the services it has provided for Afghan refugees.

Over three million Afghan refugees are living in Iran. And only around two million of them have entered the country legally.
Following is an excerpt of the statement:
Although illegal aliens are not allowed to reside in any country, more than one million illegal Afghan immigrants are living in Iran, and have recently been allowed to study on (President) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s order.
Legal Afghan immigrants will be provided with medical insurance coverage through the cooperation of the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Afghan aliens will also receive health and medical services at Tehran University of Medical Sciences according to an agreement signed by Iran, Afghanistan, and the Japanese Embassy in Tehran.
In addition, 400 Afghan nationals who were imprisoned in Iran on charges of drug trafficking have been released.
The agreement was made during the meetings between the officials of the two countries.
