TEHRAN – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that all illegal border checkpoints must be closed.

Ahmadinejad made the remarks in an address to a conference on smuggled goods in Tehran on Saturday.
He went on to say that no ministry is allowed to establish ports outside the supervision of the customs office.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said there is a huge difference between the amount of goods exported and the revenues generated, adding this indicates some other goods are imported through illegal border checkpoints.
Noting that Iran’s customs revenues fall short of target, he said customs revenues should stand at around 90,000 to 100,000 billion rials but it was only 70,000 billion rials at the end of the last Iranian calendar year (which ended on March 20).
On fight against smuggled goods, he said the campaign is not effective as it should be, saying the people involved in such attempts should not take bribes
