TEHRAN - Newly-appointed coach Dirk Bauermann said that he is going to book a place at Rio 2016 Olympic with Iran basketball team.

The German coach was named Iran basketball coach on Monday.

The 61-year-old coach has penned a three-month deal with Iran Basketball Federation and the contract will be automatically renewed for a further year if Iran qualifies for the 2016 Olympic Games.

Defending champion Iran must participate in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in late September, where the team has been pitted against Japan, Malaysia and South Asia Qualifier in Group A.

“I and Iran Basketball Federation have a common goal to work together for a long time,"" Dirk Bauermann said.

“I’ve already seen Iran's matches in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Iran takes advantage of good players, that’s why I am here,” Bauermann said.

“We have a difficult task since the FIBA Asia Championship will be held in Chine but I believe in myself and my team. I want to help Team Iran earn a place at Rio 2016 Olympic,” the German coach added.
