TEHRAN- A trade delegation, led by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Chairman Hiroyuki Ishige, is scheduled to visit Iran on October 7, according to the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI).

The delegation will be comprised of CEOs of some companies from the Japanese private sector, the IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.

Ishige is planned to visit TPOI Director Valiollah Afkhami-Rad to explore ways for the expansion of trade and economic ties between Iran and Japan.

Some sessions are scheduled to be held between members of the Japanese delegation and some representatives of the Iranian private sector, and a cooperation agreement is going to be signed between the two countries.

In a meeting with Afkhami-Rad in Tehran on August 29, Hirofumi Katase, the director general of Industrial Science, Technology Policy and Environment Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, called for the expansion of trade ties with Iran.

Afkhami-Rad said Iran is ready to make joint investment with Japan in implementation of the oil, gas, petrochemical, mining, car manufacturing and nanotechnology projects.

Iran exported $33.14 million of non-oil goods to Japan in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2015, while imported $235.03 million of non-oil goods from the country, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

Trade between the two countries hovered around $2.5 billion before the imposition of Western-led sanctions against Iran in 2011.
