TEHRAN - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ intelligence organization has briefed the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee on the captive Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian.

Rezaian is facing charges of espionage, collaboration with hostile governments, gathering classified information and disseminating propaganda against the Islamic Republic.

The report was presented as part of a more comprehensive announcement concerning “the enemy’s ways of damaging the pillars of the revolution including U.S. efforts to free Jason Rezaian,” the Tasnim news agency reported Sunday.

“Rezaian is an Iranian-born American and a very noteworthy figure for Americans, so much so that Americans have tried a lot to free him,” committee spokesman Nozar Shafi’ei quoted from the report.

“Rezaian has mission to propagate the point of view of that part of America’s Senate that believe if the country can retake its relations with Iran to the pre-revolution stage, it can easily overthrow the Iranian government.”

Rezaian, a 39-year-old, was arrested in Tehran on July 22, 2014. He had been The Post’s correspondent in Tehran since 2012.
