Iran’s vice-president for legal affairs has announced that a fact-finding committee will be established in the near future to investigate the deadly crush of pilgrims in Mecca in September.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Elham Aminzadeh said, “To examine different dimensions of the Mina incident, a fact-finding mission will be formed soon.”
The vice-president further said that with the cooperation of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization and the Foreign Ministry, necessary coordination has been made to investigate the incident to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies.

At least 7,500 pilgrims were killed in the crush in Mina on September 24 when performing religious rites. The Iranian Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization has put the final number of Iranian pilgrims killed in the disaster at 464.
