COLOMBO An enraged paramilitary policeman shot dead six people and then killed himself after a heated argument with his girlfriend's family in northeastern Sri Lanka, police said on Monday. They said a five-year-old child and two women were among those killed by P.G. Sarath who had opened fire on neighbours of his girlfriend who had rushed in to stop an argument between him and the girl's parents late on Sunday night.

The policeman then shot himself with his automatic rifle, police said, adding that none of the girl's family were among the victims. (Reuter)
