Dana Gas is set to become one of the major players in the Middle East natural gas business, with its projects in northern Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, where it is already the sixth biggest gas producer, through its wholly owned subsidiary Centurion Energy.

Muhammad Makkawi, the project director of Dana's affiliate Crescent Petroleum, speaking at a gas conference in Paris, said that Dana Gas' position would soon be consolidated as certain key projects in the United Arab Emirates and northern Iraq would be completed by mid-2008.
Makkawi also said that in the coming months some 600 million cfd of Iranian natural gas would start to be delivered to end users in the UAE early next year. He said that the drilling on the Iranian side and a 280km-long pipeline has been completed.
It should be recalled that as Dana completed its part of the project back in 2005, gas deliveries can start as soon as some disagreements in the contract are resolved.
Dana Gas has been actively engaged in the development of two gas fields in northern Iraq. Phase 1 in the development of the Khor Mor field is expected to be completed next March and gas will be used for a 500mw power plant in Irbil. The company attaches great emphasis to its projects in Iraqi Kurdistan because it sees it not only as a rich gas province, but also as a gateway for exports into Turkey and Syria.
Currently Dana Gas is carrying out an extensive exploration program in the Nile Delta in Egypt and has made a number of important discoveries in the country.
