U.S. officially asks Iran to attend talks on Iraq
Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN, Nov. 20 (MNA) -- Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said here on Tuesday that the United States has officially submitted a note requesting Iran attend talks on Iraq and Tehran has agreed.

“The negotiations are in line with the policy of assisting Iraqi people and government with the aim of establishing stability and security in the country, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has accepted it,” Mottaki told reporters after a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Walid Moallem.

The U.S. has made the request through Swiss Embassy in Tehran which represents its interest section in Iran.

The exact time of the fourth Iran-U.S. meeting will be announced soon, the foreign minister said.

Three rounds of talks between U.S. and Iranian officials have already taken place this year.

U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and his Iranian counterpart Hassan Kazemi Qomi held face-to-face talks in May and July, and senior officials from both countries also met in Baghdad in August.
