A top U.S. diplomat admits that the new intelligence report on Iran has created fresh obstacles in the way of imposing sanctions on Tehran.

“The initial indications that I get is that the impact is not positive,” U.S. envoy to UN, Zalmay Khalilzad, said Friday, referring to his conversations with fellow diplomats at the United Nations since the report was released.
The U.S. National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), which was released on Monday, confirms that Tehran is not developing nuclear weaponry.
In his conversations with other ambassadors, some have raised questions, “do we really need a resolution now?” Khalilzad said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It does complicate it.”
Iran says its nuclear program is solely aimed at peaceful purposes, but Washington and its allies accuse the Islamic Republic of running a nuclear arm program.
