Iran should relocate capital: labor minister

TEHRAN -- Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mohammad Jahromi said here on Sunday that moving the capital of Iran from Tehran to another province is on the agenda of the Housing Council.

“To solve the problem of emigration from small towns to Tehran, we should think about this as a solution,” the labor minister added.
“To solve the unemployment, housing, social, and cultural problems, I believe that we should move the capital out of Tehran,” he stressed.
Iranian seismologists have urged the government to move the capital out of Tehran.
The city, which lies on at least 100 known fault lines, could be hit by a major earthquake, they have said.
“Tehran must be rebuilt; if not, it (the capital) should be moved,” BBC quoted Dr. Bahram Akasheh, a geophysicist at Tehran University, as saying
