Iran welcomes IAEA resolution of outstanding issues

LONDON (IRNA) -- Iran has welcomed the IAEA concluding all six outstanding issues in accordance with an agreed work plan reached last August.

“The most recent report of International Atomic Energy Agency on Iran’s nuclear program of Feb 22, 2008, is a landmark victory for the world peace-loving nations and makes the Safeguards implementation in Iran as a routine manner,” the Iranian Embassy in London said.
As a result, the embassy said the IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei announced the agency’s “satisfaction to have made good progress in clarifying Iran’s nuclear activities.”
“In accordance with the Work Plan agreement, after the resolution of the outstanding issues, the Safeguards implementation in Iran is now a routine manner,” it said.
The August agreement sought to resolve all six outstanding issues in the shortest possible time relating to Iran’s civil nuclear program, namely Plutonium, P1 and P2 centrifuge machines, Uranium metal, Polonium 210, Source of contamination, and the Gachin mine.
The previous report by the IAEA on November 15 clarified the three of the issues, which Iranian Ambassador to London Rasoul Movahedian described as a “giant step forward” in returning his country’s nuclear file back to its rightful place at the UN watchdog in Vienna.
The embassy said the new report was a “triumph for IAEA, Iran, and all developing countries which in accordance with agreed Work Plan proves all allegations made against The Islamic Republic of Iran by certain countries are totally flawed and baseless.”
“Actions taken by the UN Security Council in this regard lack any shred of logic and legality,” it said.
“The report by itself provides no ground for further decision by UN Security Council,” it added.
The embassy criticized attempts by certain countries to provoke a new concern regarding alleged studies, saying it was “not considered as an integrated part of the Work Plan and an outstanding issue.”
Even the report itself declared “it doesn’t have credible information in this regard,” and attempts to ignore the significant joint achievement by Iran and IAEA were politically motivated, complicate the case and create deeper mistrust, it said.
Instead, the IAEA reaffirmed such an unprecedented, resolute voluntary cooperation, beyond Iran’s obligation in accordance with the comprehensive Safeguards agreement (INFCIRC/214), “clearly reflects the peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear program.”
“The report also serves as a solid evidence that Iran is a responsible, transparent, and predictable member of the NPT, and is fully committed to its international obligations with regard to use of peaceful nuclear program,” the embassy added.
It warned that confrontational moves by certain countries to misuse the Security Council and international organizations for their political ends can lead only “to undermine the efficiency of the UN Security Council mechanisms, IAEA’s credibility, and NPT regime.”
“If there is less pressure and threat exerted against IAEA, the more transparent and consistent report would be released,” the embassy said.
It further clarified that “Iran is determined to continue its cooperation with the IAEA along the path with Non-Proliferation Treaty and through a serious dialogue without preconditions.” -
