TEHRAN -- Beijing Oriental Royal International Cultural Exchange Center and the Organizing Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOGs) paid tribute to award-winning director Majid Majidi for his short film about the preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

In a ceremony held in Beijing on Sunday, a plaque of honor and the golden medal of the Beijing National Stadium, known as the Bird’s Nest, were handed to Majidi.
In a project named Vision Beijing to promote the Olympic host city, the Chinese capital had invited Italian Giuseppe Tornatore, Majid Majidi from Iran, Patrice Leconte from France, Daryl Goodrich from Britain and Andrew Lau Wai Keung from Hong Kong to each make a short film depicting the story of the Chinese people's preparation for the August 8-24 Games.
All five movies were screened at the ceremony, and according to most of the viewers, Majidi’s was the most attractive and influential of them all, the Persian service of IRNA reported.
Majid told IRNA that the short film entitled ""Colors Fly,"" in common with his previous works, centers round youth and focuses on the theme of children and young people looking forward to the games.
Iran’s ambassador to China Javad Mansuri also participated in the ceremony and referred to Majidi as an outstanding Iranian filmmaker whose short film about Beijing has been highly acclaimed.
“As a spectator I believe that Majidi’s movie was more expressive and eloquent than the other productions (in the project) and the humanitarian aspects of his story were more strongly developed,” Mansuri told IRNA.
Mansuri believes that the great power of Iran’s cinema lies in its depiction of spiritual and humane values.
He also mentioned that Iran’s movies attract a world-wide audience and that Iranian filmmakers employ many innovations in their productions which are unique in global cinema.
Chinese cinematic figure Chong Feng, participating in the ceremony, said that he had followed Majidi’s work closely whilst he was making the film.
He commented that Majidi had produced the work with love. He also said that the people of China appreciate his work as a filmmaker and enjoy his movies, adding that he personally particularly likes the soundtracks.
