NATANZ - Iran has started installing “6000 new centrifuges” at the Natanz enrichment plant, President Mahmud Ahmadinejad announced after visiting the nuclear enrichment facility on Tuesday.

He congratulated the Iranian nation on the national day of nuclear technology, which commemorates the anniversary of the day in April 2006 when Iran first started industrial production of enriched uranium.
“In fact, this day belongs to our people who succeeded to make their country nuclear through perseverance and pursuit of the Islamic Revolution’s objectives.”
The president also expressed hope that access to nuclear technology would be launch pad for Iran to reach a high status in the international arena.
In a ceremony at the headquarters of Iranian state broadcasting in Tehran, Ahmadinejad, alongside Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Gholamreza Aqazadeh, presented awards to 40 nuclear scientists.
In his address at the meeting, the president said the testing of the new advanced centrifuges, which can enrich uranium five times faster than the current machines, will be finished in the next three months.
He pointed out that Iran succeeded in developing nuclear technology in the face of mounting threats from certain powers that were trying to impede Iran’s scientific progress.
Ahmadinejad also criticized the West for playing politics over Iran’s peaceful nuclear program at a time when certain “illegitimate governments” pose serious threats to global security by stockpiling hundreds of nuclear warheads
