TEHRAN –- The National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) plans to commemorated the 50th death anniversary of the Greek writer and philosopher of the 20th century Nikos Kazantzakis during a ceremony in Tehran on April 13.

NLAI director Ali-Akbar Ash’ari and Greece Ambassador to Iran Merkourios Karafotias will attend the ceremony.
Greek Iranologist Evangelos Venetis is scheduled to deliver a speech on the philosophical thoughts of Kazantzakis.
Former Iranian ambassador to Greece Mohammadreza Darbandi will read an article written by Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Athens Mahmud Hafezi during the ceremony.
Organizers of the program also plan to screen an excerpt of Michael Cacoyannis film “Zorba the Greek”, which has been made based on a Kazantzakis’ novel of the same name.
The Nikos Kazantzakis Museum Foundation in Athens plans to granted some of Kazantzakis’ books to NLAI in the near future.
Kazantzakis (1883-1957) was the most important and most translated Greek writer of his century. His most famous novels include Zorba the Greek (1946), The Greek Passion (1948), Captain Michalis (1950), and Saint Francis (1956).
