Iran rebukes EU over slight to president
Tehran Times Political Desk

TEHRAN – The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday strongly condemning the recent statement of the European Union’s Slovenian presidency criticizing President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.

The EU presidency on Friday condemned “in the strongest possible terms” the anti-Israeli remarks made by Ahmadinejad, who called Israel “a stinking corpse”, AFP reported.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns this irresponsible statement and expresses regret over the fact that the current EU presidency is under the influence of the Zionist regime and its lobby in Europe,” the Foreign Ministry statement said.

Slovenia issued such a statement at a time when the Zionist regime is continuing its war crimes in Palestine and a massive humanitarian crisis is taking place in Gaza, the communiqué stated.

The European Union’s silence about Israel’s countless crimes clearly proves that its stances are biased, the Foreign Ministry said.

“Iran seriously condemns the adoption of such hypocritical and discriminatory approaches by the EU, and calls on its rotating presidency” to prevent the Zionists from undermining the EU’s status and to instead fulfill its duty to defend human dignity and respond to terrorism and the slaughter of innocent people, the statement added
