TEHRAN – Iraq has formed a special committee to investigate a recent assassination attempt on Iranian diplomats in Iraq, embassy spokesman Manouchehr Taslimi said on Friday.

Four Iranian embassy staff and their Iraqi driver were wounded on May 15 when their convoy was shot in Baghdad.
“Iran has seriously pursued the case from the beginning… the embassy has presented its viewpoints on the issue to the Iraqi committee,” Taslimi told the Mehr News Agency.
He criticized some Western media’s attempts to misreport the event and blame Iranians for the attack.
“Iranian and Iraqi officials know well that those who do not want a boost in Tehran-Baghdad relation were behind these actions. They intend to present an insecure image of Iraq in order to prevent the presence of other countries’ diplomats.”
Tehran is however prepared to help Baghdad and Iraqi officials are making every effort to bolster bilateral ties, Taslimi stated
