Iran's taekwondo team arrives in Baku

BAKU ( IRNA) -- Iran's national taekwondo team arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday to take part in an international taekwondo tournament.

The participating countries in the two-day tournament are Iran, Azerbaijan Republic, Russia, South Korea, France, Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine, Jordan, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova and Israel.

The eight-man Iranian taekwondo team will compete with their rivals in 57, 62, 67, 72, 78 and 84 kg categories.

The manager of the Iranian team Gholam-Hassan Zolqadr told IRNA that the international tournament is a good opportunity for Iran's taekwondo team to test their own and their rivals' skills for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Zolqadr added that Iran's national taekwondo team will participate in a four-day joint warm up camp with the team of Azerbaijan.

The Head Coach of Azerbaijan national taekwondo team told IRNA that the Iranian team is one of the strongest ones participating in the international event.

He also said that the presence of some Iranian taekwondo players who have already been qualified to attend Beijing 2008 Olympic Games has doubled the importance of Iran's presence in the competitions.

Moreover, he called South Korea and France as other strong taekwondo teams.
