Iran plans to launch 12 petrochemical projects by March 2009

TEHRAN – Twelve petrochemical projects are scheduled to come on stream in the current Iranian calendar year (ends March 20, 2009), the managing director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said here on Sunday.

“Twelve petrochemical projects, valued at 4.793 million dollars, are to be inaugurated in the current year,” Gholam-Hossein Nejabat told the Mehr News Agency.
Nejabat also said Iran plans to produce 7.5 million tons of methanol by the end of the Fifth Development Plan (March 2005-March 2010).
The 1st phase of the Isocyanate Project (Karun Petrochemical Complex), the Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Mid-Density Polyethylene (MDPE) Project (Aryasasol Petrochemical Complex), the Centralized Utility Project (Fajr Petrochemical Complex), the 6th Ammonia/Urea Project (Ghadir Petrochemical Complex), the Ethylene Benzene and Styrene Monomer Project (Zagros Petrochemical Complex), the Butadiene Project (Jam Petrochemical Complex), the LDPE Project (Amirkabir Petrochemical Complex), the Vinyl Chloride and PVC Project (Arvand Petrochemical Complex), the HDPE Project (Mehr Petrochemical Complex), and the Ethylene Project (Morvarid Petrochemical Complex) are going to be launched this year, Nejabat added.
The Oil Ministry has set targets aiming for the annual production of 12 million tons of ethylene, 8.5 million tons of urea, 4 million tons of aromatics, and 10 million tons of polymer by the year 2015, he stated.
Iran will make efforts to become the greatest producer of ethylene and urea in the Middle East, and the greatest producer of methanol in the world, he said
