Iran, Iraqi Kurdistan review expansion of ties

TEHRAN – The officials and tradesmen of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce and Iraqi Kurdistan region’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines on Sunday reviewed the expansion of mutual ties and cooperation.

In the meet, the chairman of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce announced that Iran’s trade centers will be established in Iraq’s Irbil, Suleimaniah, and Dohuk in the near future.

The Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) and the Iran-Iraq Economic Cooperation Headquarters will support and sponsor the establishment of the trade centers, ISNA quoted Hossein Tizmaghz as saying.

The official added that the two neighboring countries have more than $2.8 billion worth of trade of which one billion dollars is related to the transaction with the Kurdistan region.

He also announced that Tejarat Bank and Export Development Bank of Iran (EDBI) will open branches in Suleimaniah in the near future.

“The Iraqi tradesmen can export their products to India, Pakistan, Russia, and Central Asia via Iran’s ports of Bandar Abbas and Bandar Imam Khomeini as two transit ports.

The Iranian official said that some inspection corporations will be established in Suleimaniah and Irbil in a bid to evaluate the quality of the products in the borderline of Iran and Kurdistan.
