Mottaki: Iranian people prefer dialogue to violence

TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that the civilized Iranian nation has always preferred dialogue to violence and rough behavior over the course of history.

Mottaki made the remarks in a meeting with outgoing Australian Ambassador Gregory Lawrence Moriarty.

He said the U.S. is seeking to step up its psychological warfare campaign aginst Iran in order to take control of this very rich region.

“The U.S. has closed its eyes to some realities in the region such as those regimes in the region which possess nuclear weapons which are regarded as threat to the entire region,” Mottaki said.

The Australian ambassador, for his part, called Iran a great and significant country in the region.

Highlighting nuclear talks between Iran and the West he expressed hope that the issue will be resolved through diplomacy.

Lawrence also said Iran plays a significant role in regional developments especially in the neighboring Iraq and Afghanistan.

He expressed appreciation for Iran’s efforts to campaign against drug trafficking in the region.
