Iran says spares no effort to help secure Iraq

TEHRAN -- Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili on Sunday said that Iraq’s stability and economic prosperity are dependent on security in this country and Iran will spare no effort in this regard.

“The security of Iraq is the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran and due to this reason Iran will try to (help) provide security in Iraq in order to prepare the ground for economic development of this country,” Jalili said in a meeting with the visiting Prime Minister of the Kurdish Regional Government Nechirvan Barzani and accompanying delegation.

Jalili pointed to the long-lasting cultural ties between the two nations and said a secure Iraq will benefit Iran.

“No power can disturb the deep relations between Iran and Iraq,” Jalili said of efforts by outside powers to undermine relations between the two neighbors.

The Iranian top security official went on to say that Tehran and Baghdad have a “strategic view” of regional security as the two countries’ progress is ‘dependent’ on security.

Barzani, for his part, extended his gratitude over Iran’s aids to the Iraqi nation.

He also appraised Iran’s role in settling current disputes in Iraq. Barzani assessed as positive the ongoing political, economic and security developments in Iraq.

Iran has extended an expanded relation with Iraq since the downfall of the Saddam regime. The strong ties between Iranian and Iraqi leaders have angered Washington and some Arab officials
