TEHRAN – Current world economic conditions have paved the way for more cooperation between Iran and Venezuela, Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday.

“Today we need to make big decisions to boost mutual and international cooperation,” Ahmadinejad told visiting Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro.
“The waves of anti-imperialism in the world are becoming stronger day by day and we should manage the new conditions in favor of the world’s nations,” he said.
Cooperation between Iran and Venezuela can be a model for anti-imperialist campaigns, he noted.
“In light of the fact that the world’s economic management systems have failed, we need to establish new systems and take measures based on those systems,” Ahmadinejad said.
“In that event, many countries will join the new systems.”
-------------- Iran will never forego right to enrichment
In a joint press conference with Maduro, Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said that Iran would not suspend its uranium enrichment even if the West guaranteed Iran to supply its required fuel.
Several countries have failed to fulfill their commitments regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities in the past years, IRNA quoted Mottaki as saying.
Mottaki reiterated that Iran’s peaceful nuclear program in the area of enrichment and fuel supply for its nuclear power plant will continue until the country achieves self-sufficiency in the field.
After the Islamic Republic of Iran attains self-sufficiency in production of nuclear fuel, it will provide other countries with the atomic fuel, the Iranian foreign minister added.
“We have heard the false promises of different counties such as Germany that they would supply nuclear fuel for generating 1,000 megawatts of nuclear electricity but none of them have kept their promises,” he said.
In response to a question whether Iran will halt its uranium enrichment program if its receives guarantee to this end, he said “No. According to the Majlis approvals, the government is duty bound to generate 1,000 mw of nuclear energy.
“Our experiences prompt us to generate nuclear fuel independently and even broaden the scope of our activities to meet the demands of other countries,” he said.
“We abide by our constitution as well as Non-Proliferation Treaty and out peaceful program and are determined to pave the path till we attain self-sufficiency in the field,” he said.
After reaching that level of self-sufficiency, Iran would meet other countries’ demands for nuclear fuel, he underlined.
On results of negotiations with his Venezuelan counterpart, Mottaki said the two sides reviewed expansion of mutual relations and cooperation along with current regional and international developments.
Iran and Venezuela also reviewed promotion of mutual cooperation in various fields including industry, oil, banking as well as formation of a joint fund, Mottaki said.
There are various areas of cooperation between the two countries which should be explored, he said adding that the two sides have signed many multi-billion dollar deals on various development projects.
Iran and Venezuela have adopted a unified stand in dealing with current developments in Caucuses and the Middle East region and seek a durable peace and stability, he said.
The Venezuelan foreign minister, for his part, described the meeting as very fruitful and effective in expanding bilateral relations.
“We are to turn the current relations into an exemplary model for other developing countries,” he said.
World nations honor Iran’s stands on global developments and back them, he said.
The unipolar system which has been crippled with economic crisis was imposed on since 1970s, he said.
Iran and Venezuela can now discuss political and moral crisis facing the imperialism, he said.
“We are now witnessing that the forecasts of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez on evaluation of US dollar have coe true,” he said.
It is necessary to establish financial or economic institutions to break down economic dominance of the U.S. imperialism and help set up a joint fund to help attain economic independence for developing countries, he said.
Existing ties between Iran and Venezuela are friendly and brotherly, he underlined.
He also back Venezuela-Russia joint military war games which he said would strengthen his country’s defensive status.
“U.S. sought to impose economic sanctions against Venezuela to weaken its military might but we managed to thwart the plot by broadening cooperation with Russia and France along with other friendly countries,” he said.
With all its ups and downs, 2008 is regarded as a special year for the Latin American region, he said, adding that during the period the regional countries could put an end to dominance of the U.S. monopoly in many areas.
