TEHRAN -- Five films on the theme of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, known as Sacred Defense in Iran, will go on screen at the 27th Fajr International Film Festival.

“Beyond the River”, “Gray like Jasmine”, “Maryam’s Report”, “The Child and the Angel”, and “The Outcasts 2” will be competing in various sections of the event, which will take place in Tehran from January 30 to February 10.
“Beyond the River”, about three war combatants who survives from a severe military operation, was directed by Abbas Ahmadi Motlaq.
The film was produced by Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center.
“Gray like Jasmine” by director Javad Ardakani depicts a day in the life of Iranian commander Abdolhossein Berunsi at the warfront.
Starring Faramarz Qaribian, Nilufar Mohebbi, and Alireza Osivand, “The Report of Maryam” tells the story of a physician whose daughter travels to the war-torn Iranian city of Khorramshahr, to establish a hospital. The film was directed by Esmaeil Barari.
The debut film of director Masud Naqashzadeh, “Child and the Angel” depicts the early days of the Iran-Iraq war in Khorramshahr.
“The Outcasts 2”, a comedy on Iranian prisoners of war in an Iraqi camp, is a sequel to Masud Dehnamaki’s debut film.
Akbar Abdi, Javad Razavian, Shila Khodadad, Hesam Navab Safavi, Seyyed Javad Hashemi, Arjang Amirfazli, and Sepand Amirsoleimani are the main members of the cast.
